Kobo Forma Overview

Kobo Forma was released in 2018 as Kobo's flagship large-screen reader. It features an 8-inch 300 ppi Carta E Ink display, a waterproof IPX8 build, ComfortLight PRO for adjustable colour temperature, and an ergonomic asymmetric body with physical page-turn buttons. Converting PDF to EPUB for Kobo Forma

The Kobo Forma's 8-inch screen is large enough to display standard A4 PDFs reasonably well, but EPUB files are still superior for comfortable long-read sessions because they reflow text to your preferred font size and margin width.

  1. Go to toolkit.bot and upload your PDF.
  2. Click Convert. toolkit.bot handles two-column academic layouts and preserves tables and figures.
  3. Download the EPUB and transfer to your Forma using any of the three methods above.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Kobo Forma support EPUB?
Yes. Kobo Forma supports EPUB and EPUB3 natively, as well as PDF, MOBI, CBR, CBZ, and other common e-book formats. EPUB is the recommended format because it reflows text to suit the screen size and respects your font and layout preferences.
How do I transfer EPUB files to Kobo Forma?
There are three main methods: (1) Email the EPUB to your Send to Kobo address (yourname@kobo.com) and it appears wirelessly. (2) Connect via USB and drag the EPUB into the Kobo drive that appears on your computer. (3) Use Dropbox integration in the Kobo settings to sync books from your Dropbox folder.
Can I convert PDF to EPUB for Kobo Forma?
Yes. Kobo Forma can display PDFs, but the experience is much better in EPUB. Use toolkit.bot to convert your PDF to EPUB, then transfer the result to your Forma. The 8-inch screen handles academic two-column PDFs well in PDF mode too, but EPUB is preferable for long reading sessions.
What is the Kobo Forma screen size?
Kobo Forma has an 8-inch E Ink display with 300 ppi resolution. This is larger than the standard 6-inch Kobo models and makes it excellent for reading academic papers, graphic novels, and documents with tables or figures.
Is the Kobo Forma still available?
Kobo discontinued the Forma in 2022. It was succeeded by the Kobo Elipsa (10.3 inches) and the Kobo Libra 2 (7 inches). If you own a Forma, it continues to receive firmware updates and works exactly as before.
