Why not Adobe Acrobat Pro?

Adobe Acrobat Pro costs $239/year — and deliberately removed EPUB export. It remediates PDFs but keeps them as PDFs. WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow requires a reflowable format. Acrobat can't get you there.

Why not PDFix?

PDFix Pro costs $599/year and is excellent for PDF remediation. But it has no EPUB export. It cannot fix WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow. After running PDFix, you still need toolkit.bot to produce a reflowable file.

Why not Calibre or Zamzar?

Both convert PDFs to EPUB — but produce untagged, inaccessible output. No heading structure, no reading order, no WCAG compliance. Your PAC 2024 checker will still flag failures after conversion.

Common questions

Do I need a credit card for the free tier?

No subscription is needed to convert. Email sign-in is required to download the converted EPUB.

What counts as a "conversion"?

Each PDF you upload and successfully convert counts as one conversion. Re-converting the same file counts again.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Cancel from the billing portal — no penalty. Access continues until the end of the billing period.

Is there a file size limit?

Free converts files up to 50 MB, which covers most multi-hundred-page books and dissertations. Pro raises the limit to 500 MB for image-heavy scans and large illustrated titles.

How is toolkit.bot different from Adobe Acrobat or PDFix?

Adobe Acrobat Pro removed EPUB export and cannot fix WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow. PDFix remediates PDFs but also has no EPUB output. toolkit.bot converts PDFs to accessible EPUB3 — the only format that satisfies Reflow requirements — for free or $9/month with no desktop software needed.
