SLTs read RCSLT (Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists) clinical guidelines and frameworks, ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association) position papers and practice portals, NICE guidelines (e.g., stroke rehabilitation, dementia, autism), Cochrane systematic reviews on SLT interventions, journal articles from the International Journal of Language and Communication Disorders (IJLCD) and JSLHR, and NHS Trust speech and language therapy protocols.
Some are, some are not. The International Journal of Language and Communication Disorders is paywalled but accessible via NHS OpenAthens or university Athens login. ASHA publications are available to ASHA members. Cochrane reviews are freely available at cochranelibrary.com. RCSLT publishes some free practice guidance documents. NICE guidelines are always free at nice.org.uk.
