Can Kindle Read EPUB Files? (Yes, Since 2022)
Yes. Kindle added native EPUB support in September 2022. You can now send EPUB files directly to any Kindle device or app using Send to Kindle, email, or USB transfer — no conversion to MOBI or AZW3 required first.
How to send an EPUB to Kindle (3 methods)
Method 1: Send to Kindle website (fastest)
- Go to send.amazon.com
- Sign in with your Amazon account
- Click "Select files" and choose your EPUB
- Select which Kindle devices or apps to send to
- Click "Send" — the book appears in your Kindle library within minutes
Method 2: Email to your Kindle address
- Find your Kindle email address at amazon.com → Account → Devices → your Kindle → Details
- Email the EPUB as an attachment to yourname@kindle.com
- Make sure the sending address is on your approved senders list (in Manage Your Content and Devices)
- The EPUB appears in your library within minutes on WiFi
Method 3: USB transfer
- Connect your Kindle via USB cable
- It appears as a drive on your computer
- Copy the EPUB file to the
documentsfolder - Eject and disconnect — the book appears in your library
USB transfer works without WiFi and without an Amazon account. Good for self-published or DRM-free books.

Converting a PDF to EPUB for Kindle
If you have a PDF you want to read on Kindle, converting it to EPUB first gives you a significantly better reading experience — adjustable font size, dark mode, and Kindle's Bookerly typeface all work on EPUBs but not on PDFs.
- Go to toolkit.bot/pdf2epub — free, no account
- Upload your PDF (handles scanned PDFs, academic papers, tables)
- Download the EPUB
- Send to Kindle using any method above
Convert PDF to EPUB — then send to Kindle via Send to Kindle.
