How to Convert PDF to EPUB on Windows — Free, No Software Required
On Windows, you can convert PDFs to EPUB in your browser — no download, no install, works on Windows 10 and 11. If you need offline conversion or batch processing, Calibre is the best free desktop option.
Option 1: Browser-based (fastest, any Windows version)
- Open toolkit.bot/pdf2epub in Edge, Chrome, or Firefox
- Drag your PDF onto the upload area or click to browse
- Wait 10–60 seconds for conversion
- The EPUB downloads automatically to your Downloads folder
Free tier: 5 conversions per month, no account required. Works on all Windows versions including Windows 10, 11, and Windows on ARM.
This is the best option for:
- Scanned PDFs (runs OCR automatically — see OCR guide →)
- Academic papers with two-column layouts
- PDFs with tables
- One-off conversions without installing anything
Option 2: Calibre (offline, unlimited, desktop app)
Calibre is a free desktop application for Windows that converts PDFs to EPUB locally without any internet connection.
- Download Calibre from calibre-ebook.com (100MB installer)
- Install and open Calibre
- Click Add books and select your PDF
- Right-click the book → Convert books → Convert individually
- Set Output format to EPUB, click OK
- Right-click → Open containing folder to find your EPUB
Calibre works well for simple single-column books. It struggles with scanned PDFs (no OCR) and multi-column academic papers. Calibre vs toolkit.bot comparison →
Option 3: Send to Kindle app (PDF → EPUB → Kindle)
If your goal is reading on a Kindle, the Send to Kindle desktop app for Windows converts PDFs automatically when you send them:
- Download the Send to Kindle app
- Right-click your PDF → Send to Kindle
- Amazon converts it and delivers it to your Kindle
Amazon's conversion quality is inconsistent for complex PDFs. For a more reliable result — especially for academic papers or scanned documents — convert to EPUB first with toolkit.bot, then email the EPUB to your @kindle.com address.
